Resumen
In the archaeological excavations made in the surroundings of the church of Astigarraga, where the ancient cemetery was located, permit digging up the skeletal remains of more than thirty individuals. The main part of the burials is individual. However, the burial which corresponds to the U.E. 102 is collective and simultaneous, where nine male individuals have been recuperated. This inhumation can be interpreted like a mass grave derived to a violent episode, perhaps related to the Convention War (1793-1795) or the Independence War (1808-1813), both of them against France. If we look the pathology we see it is very varied. Apart from joints pathology, traumatic lesions are also he most frequent, such as consolidated crane fractures, lower and upper extremity’ s fractures, perimortem fractures and scalp injuries. On the other hand, the most relevant aspect is related to the oral pathology, consists on the existence of impacted canines and dental wear compatible with the use of smoking clay pipes.
