Resumen

The monitoring of the morphological changes of a sand bar in the beach of Lekeitio (Bizkaia) is presented. The coastal dynamics and the sand deposition were affected by several coastal storms given in 2011 that broke a dike in several parts. The dike was constructed in the 19th century to protect the sea port of Lekeitio (Bizkaia) from the Lea River’s sediment deposition which modified the estuary of Lea River forcing the river to flow into the east side of the island. A Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS) was used to register the morphological response of a sand bar to the changes in the river mouth and coastal dynamics. The monitoring was conducted in three fieldwork campaigns in October 2012, June 2013 and October 2013. The preliminary results concluded the migration to the east of the axis of the bar and the erosion of the area close to the dike.
