Abstract
This talk reviews the life and works of this mannerist writer, who portrayed in his sketches the enlightened conservative bourgeoisie of Bilbao, to which he himself belonged. Emiliano de Arriaga represents nostalgic mannerism, as opposed to the critical mannerism of Unamuno or Aranaz Castellano, amongst others. Outstanding amongst his publications is the Lexicón, a small dictionary of a supposed Bilbao dialect.
