Abstract

The main purpose of this Doctoral Thesis is to increase the knowledge about the analysis of load supported during training and competition in women's basketball. To do this, five objectives were achieved: to show the level of scientific evidence on women's basketball; to know the different instruments used to quantify the load; to analyse and quantify the load during the competition; to establish differences between training and competition and, finally, to create specific performance profiles. In this way, a multitude of scientific evidence has been provided for coaches to use when prescribing training. For this, the literature on women's basketball was reviewed and objective and reliable instruments for the analysis of training and competition load have been shown. Based on the analysis of the competition, it has been established that the 3 vs. 3 modality generates higher demands compared to the 5 vs. 5 and, therefore, the training sessions should be different. Differences in load demands have been described depending on the specific position, playing period and playing time and, therefore, individualized training patterns have been established. Regarding the joint analysis of training and competition, it has been established that, training does not match the demands proposed by competition, being the last one the most demanding condition. Finally, performance profiles have been established with the aim of providing guidelines for a specific workout during training.
