Abstract

Both health professionals and the general public are increasingly in favor of a shift towards a communication dynamic orientated towards the patient with a humane approach that situates the patient at the centre of the dialogue. This paper collates and analyses the perceptions of the users of public health and how they communicate about the health risk to which they are exposed and its effects. A short questionnaire of seven open questions has been developed using the WhatsApp technology application. Discourse analysis has been carried out by applying the interpretive repertoire (IR) model of discursive psychology. From the analysis of the replies, it is gathered that the public demand greater participation in the sanitary process in order to stop feeling so exposed and vulnerable. The authors discuss these and other findings and their implications for the incorporation and normalization of the use of WhatsApp in the course of the health life of the users.
