Resumen
In order to analyze the demolinguistic division in that way, assessment methods, speaker classification criteria, geolinguistic divisions and the development of groups of speakers on an age basis provide, among others, a basis for any language planning. This field of knowledge needs its own kind of methodology. In this article, speaker classification criteria and the basis for counting speakers, together with an analysis of data from local registries and census figures are roundly criticized. "Hizkuntza arteko ukipen egoera" is taken as an erratic situation; its development is not necessarily the only course. Even though the progress observed in the process of the recuperation of Basque is undeniable, losses and setbacks are also apparent in the same data. Analyzed as a whole, this can tell us the changes and the nature of the changes there might be over the coming years. We have wished to stick to that throughout this article.
