Resumen

The influence of the application method on the consolidating efficacy of SiO2 nanoparticles has been evaluated in a deteriorated sandstone from the cloister of the Pamplona Cathedral using the most used application methods, brush and spray and, studying the drilling and dripping method. The changes in the physical properties of the stone after the application of the treatment were analyzed using non-destructive or microdestructive techniques (ultrasonic velocity, peeling test, drilling resistance, hydric behavior and spectrophotometry). The results show that the application method has a significant influence on the effectiveness of SiO2 nanoparticles, concluding that the selection of the application method depends on the conservation state of the treated stone, the location of the deterioration (superficial, internal or both) and the intrinsic factors of the material that determine the compatibility with the product, its penetration and therefore its effectiveness.
