Abstract

The monument is, in essence, preserved memory. Evocative artifacts that contribute to shaping identity and collective memory. A part of the vacillating existence of the Comisión de Monumentos de Vizcaya was intimately linked to the places of the memory of Bilbao: fostering new memorials, trying to preserve historic buildings, being unable to prevent the demolition of emblematic factories and promoting the formation of museums. All this invites us to reflect on the places in the memory of Bilbao linked to the Comisión de Monumentos de Vizcaya and on its memory and value today.
