Abstract

The aim of this article is to suggest a possible reading of Ramon Saizarbitoria’s novel Martutene (2012) from the perspective of memory studies. Pierre Nora’s ‘sites of memory’ are my starting point and, among the various examples of this which are to be found in the novel, I pay special attention to family seats and farmsteads as sites of memory. Reflections about the Basque conflict, Basque nationalism and Basque memory and identity are of particular relevance to my study
