Abstract
The objective of this paper is the study of speech variation, based on the changes that Larrabetzuan speakers have in accent and intonation. To proceed with the data collection, an expressly-made questionnaire was arranged with specific items on accent and intonation. On the one hand, in order to study the intonation of basic sentences, the following types of sentences were used: statements, yes/no questions, Wh-questions, questions of choice, question tags, and questions of doubt. On the other hand, two sets of questions were used to research differentiation accent, that is, to investigate whether singular and plural are differentiated. To complete the corpus, 24 participants, 12 young ones and 12 senior ones, took part in the research. The recordings were transcribed and labeled using Praat program, and subsequently, a quantitative study of data was performed using SPSS package. In conclusion, we can say that if the respondents are classified according to accent and intonation, the influence of age is statistically significant, whereas the influence of gender is not so.
