Resumen

El objetivo prinicipal del artículo es, tomando como base la economía de la Comunidad Autónoma del País Vasco (CAV), analizar los daños socio-ecológicos que generan las regiones ricas del Norte Global fuera de sus fronteras, principalmente en el Sur. Para ello, estudiamos el metabolismo social de la CAV, el origen de sus importaciones y los daños generados en su extracción, y las actividades de las empresas vascas en el extranjero. Encontramos que los Requerimientos Totales de Materiales de la CAPV estan entre los más elevados de los países del Norte. Estos requerimientos se abastecen en un 91% de importaciones, donde destacan las importaciones de metales, los combustibles fósiles y sus Flujos Ocultos. A partir de tres casos de estudio realizados en Bolivia, Indonesia y el Océano Índico, analizamos las consecuencias de esta dependencia exterior. Los resultados de la investigación muestran la responsabilidad socio-ecológica extraterritorial que tiene la economía vasca en este mundo globalizado, y la necesidad de tenerla en cuenta para construir un futuro más sostenible y justo.
