Abstract
The article analyzes the origin and development of the post of municipal architect in Bilbao. From the original documentation there are established the limits of the action of technical personnel who, in different moments, occupied of the control of the process of construction and quality of the architecture. Between the year 1800 and 1876 the role of the municipal architect is defined up to there be fixed definitively in the municipal structure.
