Starting from a fresh analysis of sorne well-known Palaeohispanic onomastic materiaIs, the article explains emergence and relative chronology of the various types of Celtic derivational morphemes with velar stop and { ai,ei, oi,ui} or {yo,ya,(y)e} in presuffixal position.Typological parallels are provided both for the narrowing of yo and ya into (y)e and for the (pre)palatalization phenomena induced by i and y.
