Resumen
Kimuak, an initiative promoted by the Basque Government's Culture Department and run by the Basque Film Library, primarily aims at the international promotion of the best Basque short films. It is a pioneering model in the Spanish State and it has been a reference to other autonomous regions (Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia, the Canary Islands...) and it has also been adopted beyond our borders. The article, the basis of which is a rigorous analysis of the cinematographic works from the programme Kimuak, aims to show its international success' main reasons. In order to do this, it studies in depth the thematic, narrative and formal keys of a cinema characterized by the hybridisation of genres and its proposals' quality, diversity and originality.
