Abstract

In the last years in the Basque Country the rise of the phenomenon of youth clubs among youngsters (rented and self-managed places below the buildings) has been remarkable. Here, a big part of the young people develop directly or indirectly their activities as a group, turning into one of their spaces for socializing and participating. This youth clubs, so-called "lonjas", allow the direct contact among young people, at the same time giving the opportunity to make a socio-educational intervention somewhere they feel homely and safe. This paper analyses the usage of social networks in the youth clubs for managing and communication among their members, as well as the relations created among the youth clubs, others agents and social organisations. A survey was carried out between December and January (2014-2015 school year) in Bizkaia where 69 youngsters participated. The results showed that although the majority of the young people use these social networks, the usage made for organising things related to the youth club or the contact with other agents of the neighbourhood is scarce. Nevertheless, it is also seen the use of some social networks for finding out work and/or training opportunities, likewise cultural events.
