In this article, firstly, a possible connection between external representation skills for plane figures and the development of thinking levels is studied. For this purpose, extensive research was carried out with compulsory education, secondary school and university students. Results suggest that students� representation skills improve progressively as they progress on their thinking level. Subsequently, a proposal for new level descriptors is formulated in relation to the external representation of plane figures. This proposal is expected to contribute to a better clarification and to a higher curricular integration of the Van Hiele model.
