Resumen

The objective of this work is centered around the quantitative evaluation of the antidiabetics prescription in a Health Center (13,248 adult patients) for three years; the influence of gender and age on this evaluation, the associated economic cost and the possible savings by using the most inexpensive alternatives available in the pharmaceutical market. The percentage of patients being prescribed with antidiabetics is a 0.60% in the case of insulin and a 1.22% in the case of oral preparations. The defined daily doses per thousand habitants and per clay of antidiabetics have reached 16.3772 (3.4509 for insulin and 12.9263 for oral preparations). The prescription cost for antidiabetics is of 55225.54 euros (4233,34 euros for insulin and 50992.20 euros for oral preparations). The possible savings by prescribing the most economic alternatives in the market could have been of 2424.66 euros (4.39% of the total cost), particularly affecting glibenclamide
