Abstract

This article tackles the sentences’ element-order in Basque written prose. In the context of seeking the maximum level of communicative efficiency, at present time it exists two trends regarding the position of the verb in affirmative sentences: one tends to place the verb at the final part of the sentences whilst the other tends to put it in an advanced position. This piece of research analyses and compares those tendencies in a set of specialists (N=12) and in a sample of baccalaureate teachers (N=105). For that aim, participants chose their preferential element-order in a set of 25 pairs of sentences. Results point out that, unlike baccalaureate teachers, specialists mainly prefer sentences with the verb placed at an earlier position.
