Abstract

Three main environment types have been distinguished in the Upper Pliocene deposits of Saiss Basin (N of Morocco) on the basis of the ostracod faunal assemblages. Fluvio-Iacustrine in the northern edge, with oligohaline to mesohaline NaCl-dominant water. Lacustrine to palustrine at the top, in the central area of the basin and palustrine to the western, with oligohaline bicarbonate-rich water.
