Abstract

The main subject of the work is summarized in these first lines expressed the need to highlight the significant construction and symbolic configuration of urban space in the waterfronts. In the territory of the Basque Country North we find the city of Bayonne. Born on the banks of the river, the Adour and Nive cut the city into three distinct parts characterized by the urban development on the edge of the water, with one stipulated in these ‘urban boundaries’ features; boundaries between historically constructed space and proximity to the water. The sea and river tides have shaped the landscape of the coast and the urban phenomenon of the agglomeration both in establishing a concrete maritime culture. Is it affected by contemporary changes but trying to keep still present. Therefore, this research proposes a prone discover these physical and symbolic aspects approach, working on a multidisciplinary perspective and especially for Urban planning and Anthropology, to reveal a cross-reality which is already appreciated in the form of an expanding metropolis that goes by solving as a coastal conurbation.
