Resumen

Nationalist Dilemmas. Basque Society or nationalist Community [ANDER GURRUCHAGA] The phases and stages which nationalism has undergone suggestively stand out through one hundred years of this doctrine history. Nevertheless, the network of its construction is facing its limits. Throughout the article, I suggest that these limits present various facets. Foremost, is the plural nature of basque society. Another one is the turnover in generations. Thirdly, socioeconomic change acts as the vehicle of new values, overall announcing a new socializing paradigm which focuses on the figure of the «smuggler». Another facet is the paradoxical situation posed by the threat to the nationalist conviction, as well as the feeling of crisis at the identity security domain. On the other hand, the management of the peace process has generated a new dilemma: what is the purpose of Lizarra? To secure the national project, mostly taking into account the nationalist world? or on the other hand, it is pretended that this pact or others which could emerge will be a milestone in the construction of basque society as a whole? The option of either path obviously leads to different situations.
