Abstract

Adolescence is the time of life subject to the highest risk of drug use and abuse. This is especially true for teenagers who have problems at school, at home or with their social environment. Data included in the present paper was collected in the course of a study on Professional Initiation Centers and health promotion. It aimed at assessing student and teacher needs as well as education interventions developed in said centers with a view to producing educational guidelines. The study was conducted in 13 State-run Professional Initiation Centers of Guipuzcoa throughout the 2008-09 school year. 30 interviews were performed as follows 13 principals, 10 teachers and 7 students from different grades. This study shows signifi cant outcomes on drug use. Results are broken down by teacher and student contributions. The main conclusion drawn is that further commitment of Professional Initiation Centers is required to tackle drug use problems.
