Abstract

The newspaper “El Liberal” of Bilbao covered the floral games, which found an echo in the journals “La Vasconia” of Buenos Aires and “Euzkadi” of Bilbao, in particular the speech by M. Unamuno. In 1900 the Congress of Basque Studies was held in Paris, and in September 1901 the constitution of the association “Euskualzaleen Biltzarra” began in Hendaye, within the framework of which Sabino Arana gave a speech on the vitality and future of the Basque language, which should be seen in relation to that given a few days previously by M. Unamuno in Bilbao. Bilbao was fomenting new cultural imaginaries for a city in change.
