Abstract

The objective of this review was to know the effects of physical activity (PA) programs on the improvement of functional and physical abilities of people with cerebral palsy (CP), especially of wheelchair-dependent people. A systematic review of the different PA programs was carried out in five different databases (PubMed, Eric, Google Scholar, Dialnet and Researchgate). Fifteen articles met the inclusion criteria. Evidence of the improvement of functional capacities through different PA programs was found, being those of aerobic capacity, strength and mixed (aerobic capacity and strength) the most used and analyzed in the scientific literature. Mixed programs seem to be the most suitable, since it has been observed that greater improvements occur in the functional capacities of people with CP after these programs. In addition, for wheelchair-dependent people, mixed programs seem to have positive effects in the wheelchair propulsion. Further research in this field is necessary, since there are few articles applied exclusively to wheelchairdependent people with CP.
