The karstic system of the Nerja Cave is developed in the dolomitic marbles of the Almijara Nappe. These marbles show little edaphic development but abundant weathering features. Weathering processes of dolomitic marbles caused brecciation, disintegration and formation of dolomitic sands, as well as deposits of diverse secondary carbonates: calcretas and speleothems. The Nerja Cave contains detrital deposits, mostly dolomitic sands. The objective of this work is to characterize and relate the edaphic processes of the exokarstic environment with the detrital sediments of the interior of the karst. Thus, the dolomitic sand or regolith can i) become part of the edaphic horizons, as at present; ii) be embedded in the calcrete; or iii) be transported to the interior of the karst by hydrological and gravitational processes.
