Abstract
After 180 years of research on the Basque dolmen phenomenon, we reflect on three aspects thereof. The social structure of those buried, which given the age and gender pyramids, makes the presence of certain filters seem evident. The distribution of the monuments, perfectly in line with the geomorphological possibilities of the landscape and an ingredient that could be the basis of the architectural differences of the monuments. Its chronological flow, thanks to the absolute chronology, which defines three general phases, and the particular ones for each monument in question.
