Abstract
The hermitage of San Juan of Cárcamo has developed in the last decades a discussion about an inscription found in its inside in 1975. In that time, it was read as “the year 1150 Cistercians came”, and about this interpretation a lot of hypothesis and suspicions have arisen. This paper addresses this topic trying to finish this discussion by proposing a new reading of this inscription and, besides, wants to clarify the dark past of this hermitage, which has received three different dedications through its history.
