Abstract

Objective: the concept of conceptualizing the use of drugs has been changing throughout the last years. Drug-taking problem considerated as a «moral question» and also as an «illness» brought about policies as «war against drugs» and abstinence was considered the unique solution as a success objetive. The concept of harm and risk reduction allows to pasage the aim from the substance to the behaviour of the drug user and also makes possible the consideration of different aims within a continuum from the least risk consumption to the abstinence. Materials and Method: this article presents the «Workshops for a less risk drugs use» as specific strategies that allow the labor with drug users within the different stages of that continuum for Public Health objetives. Results: the Trainning Programs that we've implemented with sanitary professionals allow us to state that they change their knowledges and attitudes and they feel competent to carry out this kind of Workshops with their clients. Conclusions: the sanitary professionals needs new tools to design, implement and evaluate Harm Reduction Programs. These Programs, organized like Workshops are adressed to change the risk behaviors among drug users.
