Abstract

This paper analyzes the profitability of the freezer tuna subsector in Spain. This is an activity little known, but with an extreme world relevancy. For that aim, first at all we will begin with the presentation of this subsector via a brief historical synthesis about its born and development. Some recent information about the number of boats and quantity of showy captures is setting out below. Finally, the paper analyzes the financial and economic profitability, and compares the results obtained with the minimal profitability demanded by owners and investors, on one hand, and the managers, for other one.
