Abstract

Since its emergence in the late nineties, Food Sovereignty has been adopted by peasant movements as a responding paradigm to the consequences of neoliberal globalization over global food regime. In a parallel way, the concept has been intensely debated by researchers, politicians and activists. However, its policy performance has been quite limited, though it has been included in debates in FAO or recognized as right in the Constitutions of countries like Ecuador, Bolivia and others. In this bulletin we analyze the origins and evolution of the concept, emphasizing in the main debates that are embedded in its building as alternative paradigm for the democratization of global food system.
