Abstract
Objetives: A descriptive analysis is made of the clinicopathological characteristics of in/lamed dentigerous cysts (IDCs). Study design: Ten IDCs were studied retrospectively, using a previously designed protocol comprising clinical, radiological and histopathological aspects. Results: The cysts were found to affect both sexes equally, mean patient age being 23 years. Swelling was the most relevant clinical parameter. The IDCs were mainly located in the anterior regions of the mandible, and exhibited a pericoronary unilocular translucent image measuring 47.1 mm on average. Cortical involvement and root resorption were frequent. Histologically, the lesions exhibited a lax connective capsule with an intense inflammatory infiltrate and a stratified flat epithelial lining. The latter was focally hype1plastic and 4.8 cells thick on average. Conclusions: IDCs constitute a particular clinicopathological entity withfeatures intermediate between developmental cysts and inflammatory cysts of mixed histogenesis. Key words: Dentigerous cysts, inflammation.
