Abstract

Spanish adaptation of an instrument to assess conflict resolution (Conflictalk): Psychometric data of reliability and validity. The study aimed to perform the Spanish adaptation of an instrument that measures the conflict-resolution strategies (Conflictalk). The sample consisted of 2,283 adolescents from the Basque Country, Spain (50.5% males, 49.5% females), from 12 to 17 years of age. Descriptive, comparative, and correlational methodology was used, and 8 assessment instruments were administered. The results showed high internal consistency. Analysis of variance confirmed that females obtain higher scores in cooperative and passive conflict-resolution strategies, and males in aggressive strategies. The use of strategies was similar between ages 12 and 17. The correlation coefficients suggest that adolescents who use many cooperative strategies have high levels of empathy, emotional intelligence, extroversion, openness, friendliness, and responsibility, whereas those who use many aggressive strategies have low empathy, low self-esteem, high emotional instability, low agreeableness, low responsibility, commit many antisocial behaviors, obtain high scores on victimization and perpetration of bullying and cyberbullying, present many school problems and low social adaptation. The study provides reliability and validity of the Spanish adaptation of Conflictalk.
