Working in groups allows acquiring several skills that are considered very important in the education of the future professionals. Most often, these skills are achieved more easily by working in small groups. Lecturing to large groups of students may affect negatively to the quality of the learning process, since it reduces the participation of the students in the classroom and makes more difficult working in groups. As a consequence, dealing with classrooms with lots of students may disallow using active methodologies. This work proposes several strategies and techniques that may be used to promote that students work in groups and participate more in the classroom, even when the num ber of students is not small (i.e. over 60 students). With these techniques the authors pretend to provide some tools that may help instructors to reduce their work overload while keeping an accepted level of teaching quality, even in adverse conditions.
