The use of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is changing the diagnostic evaluation of endodontically compromised teeth in our daily practice. Two-dimensional (2-D), whether they are conventional film or digital images, cannot accurately offer the full three-dimensional (3-D) representafion of the teeth and supporting structures. The CBCT allows the clinician to view the tooth and pulpal structures in thin slices in all three anatomical planes: axial, sagital, and coronal. The use of this complementary exploration radiographic tool, gives inyaluable information of the pulp system of teeth with persistent apical periodontitis undergoing root canal retreatment. The article presents a clinical example of the value of using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) for pulp canal interpretation prior to endodontic retreatment and shows the final treatment.
