Abstract

This paper discusses the communication established between actors and children in theatre for babies. The study has been conducted focusing on the performances carried out by the theatre play Kubik of the Teatro Paraíso Company. This artistic experience offers nursery schools the opportunity to introduce an art component in the curriculum. Given the lack of previous studies conducted in the field of theatre for babies, the aim of this investigation is analysing the dramatization as a communication method during the learning process. This study has been carried out by a research group of the University of the Basque Country - UPV/EHU. Information has been gathered by means of field notes collected during performances, focus groups and questionnaires distributed to gather opinions about the theatre-play. Data analysis has been performed using the computer software NVIVO 8. The results underline the little use of verbal communication and the greater relevance of gestures, expressions and body movement when interacting with girls and boys. In addition, results also emphasize the importance of visual contact between actors, actresses and infant audience.
