Abstract

The efforts of media companies to achieve profitability in the current economic crisis, increase the risk of ignoring ethical principles in the conduct of business information. This reality is the reason that has led our research team at the UPV / EHU to conduct a survey in the Basque Country among journalists, radio, television and digital media to learn about the importance they attach to the codes of ethics , what degree of knowledge they have and how to value them. Although the Basque journalists judged positively the existence of ethical documents for professional practice, in the analysis they do about the current ones, they qualify them as useless, because they don´t solve any actual doubts and, in particular, those that generate new social awareness issues. Perhaps the reason lies in the poor development of texts on ethical self-regulation in the Basque Country.
