Abstract
The professional activity of non-university teachers is at present dominated by a feeling of frustration and depression. Teachers feel that they have less and less power and authority and that they are not supported by their pupils’ families, the Administration and the mass media, i.e. by society as a whole. Moreover, the teaching profession is impotent to deal with this situation as it lacks both the necessary strategies and tools with which to confront it positively. This state of affairs requires urgent action and society needs to begin a great debate about education with the objective of developing an educational community in which all parties with responsibility for the education of new generations accept their role within a new ethical project.
