Abstract

We analyse in this article, by means of an exercise of comparative history, the differences and similarities in the business environment and in the entrepreneurial function in the industrial divides of the end of 19th and 20th centuries. We point out that the changes experienced in the structure, strategy and organization of the firms and industries in the last two decades of the 20th century show a striking resemblance, both in its dynamics and in their consequences they bring about, with those that happened a hundred years ago; and that there are some common features in the business environment of both periods - an increase of entrepreneurial opportunities, of the rate of innovation, and of the level of uncertainty - the enhance the role of the entrepreneur.
