Abstract

When the history of autobiographical genre is done, St. Augustine's Confessions, a work written in Latin at the end of the 4th century, are often cited as the most ancient precedent. However, during the Roman Imperial era (centuries I-IV), there are different writings in Greek which also have autobiographical content. In this paper we point out the most relevant and situate them in the literary context in which they arose
