Basque Country is increasingly characterised by a plural society. Figures issued by the Spanish National Statistics Office, INE (2009), indicate that the ratio of immigrants has risen considerably in the last decade, growing from 16,794 in 1999 to 132,189 in 2009.The remarkable rise increase in schools of students from families related to immigration demands an urgent study of the educational processes currently in place for introducing these pupils to Basque schools. We believe that one way to contribute to obtaining this understanding could be achieved by studying these immigrant families and their educational scenarios, i.e. their educational expectations and involvement. The approach of this Thesis Project aims to learn the educational expectations and involvement of families immigrating to the Basque Autonomous Community with regard to their sons and daughters in Primary Education, in order to therefore establish a series of bases for joint family-school intervention. The first part of the work refers to the theoretical framework of the project, consisting of four chapters. The second part refers to the empirical aspect. The research is based on a mixed design. The qualitative research has the aim of learning how the families consider the educational experience from their own point of view. This was enormously helpful for understanding the subject of study and the objectives to be considered in the quantitative research. It was also the basis for designing the instrument serving to collect and analyse the quantitative details. With a view to producing a study extensible to the number and variety of situations to be studied, the qualitative research is followed by the quantitative research.
