Abstract
An experimental study has been carried out in order to know the effect that different techniques (hand and mechanical) and different intensities of condensation (weak and strong) have on the surface composition of dental amalgams. The surface of 96 cylinders 2 mm wide, filled in with dental amalgam Amalcap Plus Non-Gamma 2 using the said methods, were analysed, simple blind, using scanning electron mycroscopy (SEM), back scattered energy technique. We have not found differences due to the technique, the intensity of condensation or both variables together. But the concentration of the elements found on the amalgam surface support the idea of a new amalgamation method. Instead of (or besides) being penetrated by Hg, the alloy particles would rather be dissolved and suspended, probably in a coloid form, on the surface of the restoration, where the concentration of the Hg is higher.
