Abstract

Palabras clave. Estadísticas ¿ Educación Superior ¿ República Dominicana ¿ Sistema de indicadores ¿ Instituciones de Educación Superior. The lack of a good statistic system is a traditional weakness of Dominican Republic Educational System, that is the result of the absence and huge limitations for the execution of a systematic process of recollection and analysis of statistic data. For this, a descriptive analytical, non experimental, quali-quantitative, retrospective study was carried out, with primary sources. A same of 39 HEI (Higher Education Institutions, 95% of the universe) was established; however, only 17 institutions provided information. 3 recollection tools were used: Form 1 (a question form composed of 6 questions and its corresponding indicators, directed to the SEESCYT), Form 2 (a semi structured question form composed of 44 questions and their corresponding particular indicators) and Interview to professors (a questionnaire composed of 5 questions, addresed to one professor of each HEI). The analysis was mainly quantitative, using resources from descriptive and inferential statistics (p < 0,05), through the software SPSS 17 for Windows. Several faults were found on the statistic units of the HEI of Dominican Republic , which is justified both by the existence of bureaus specifically conceived for that end and the availability of associated material, human and financial resources, relations with other departments, methodology used, calculated indicators. It is recommended to design and put in practice a system of indicators based on the following: desertion rate, average time of studies, graduation rate, success rate, efficiency rate. It is recommendend as well to create every necessary mechanism that may help increase the efficiency attached to these faults, demanding periodical diagnose studies that show the needs and advances in time.
