Resumen
The birth of a child is often a stressful and delicate event that tends to be accompanied by an increase in conflicts between parents, as well as a sharp reduction in free time and activities in common (Lawrence, Nylen, and Cobb, 2007). Becoming a father, therefore, is a process that sometimes differs from the prenatal expectations that are sometimes held in terms of organization of care, upbringing of children and subsequent relationship with the couple (Menéndez, Hidalgo, Jiménez and Moreno, 2011). Nowadays, men face a great challenge, developing a father role involved in the care of his son and responding to the new demands to which they are called without having a reference, a model or previous support in many occasions (Goodman, 2005). Therefore, delving into this process today with social changes has become a priority to give also adapted care to the population and to this vital momento. The main objectives of the study are to contribute to the promotion of health in the family environment with children in the 0-5 year stage through the study of the beginnings of paternity. Analyze the experiences of men in relation to the process of becoming a father. Identify the expectations and needs during the same, of the first-time male parents. Develop a mid-range theory that promotes optimal nursing care and encourages the development of the discipline. The methodology used was a Grounded Theory Study guided by Strauss & Corbin approach Findings: The process of becoming a father is described through a four-phase model under the central category: becoming a father: a one way journey from partner to team. In this model, 4 stages are approached: flying in the passenger cabin, flying between the passenger cabin and the control cabin, flying in the control cabin and on the ground, which give meaning to this process. Conclusions: The process of becoming a father implies an effort for parents to combine the life they call "before" and the life of "now", emphasizing that in this exercise of engaging both lives, their relationship is at stake. Parents want to be more present and feel part of the process but there are barriers that limit their involvement from work, politics, family and even at the couple level showing the great influence of the environment and their interaction with new parents in the development of his new identity.
