Abstract

n this work, the palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of the Añavieja lake (Soria) for the Holocene is proposed, based on the ostracod assemblages preserved in core AÑ1. In the core base, the assemblage 1 is formed mostly by Cyclocypris ovum, Pseudocandona albicans and Ilyocypris bradyi and defines the establishment of a highly vegetated wetland reached by cyclic energetic water supplies during the first half of the Holocene, which coincides with a wet and temperate climatic period. At the beginning of the Late Holocene a decrease of the water level is detected, which seems to correspond with more arid conditions. Assemblage 2, composed among other species by Prionocypris zenkeri and Darwinula stevensoni, is recognizable at the end of the Upper Holocene and implies the development of wetlands fed by freshwater streams or springs, once again as a result of wet climatic conditions. This study highlights the utility of ostracods as bioindicators for palaeoenvironmental reconstructions in Holocene continental aquatic environments in the Iberian Peninsula.
