Abstract

To involve, motivate, and ultimately encourage the students’ academic and emotional attachment is nowadays one of the most stringent challenges of the university. This circumstance is part of a broader movement of international scope known as the Student Engagement, which is still latent in the Spanish university system but is turning more and more important for educational research projects, charged for theorizing and debating its content, as well as teaching praxis, appealed by its growing, critical contribution in the teach-and-learn process. In this paper we introduce an analysis of the role of Economic History for students to achieve a positive commitment with their own learning, the Academia and the society. In addition, we will try to point out some of the active methodologies that best fit our knowledge area and contribute to reinforce the Student Engagement.
