Abstract

This study examines the reflections of 24 students from the Primary Education Degree at the Universityof the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) who developed their Final Degree Projects (FDP) through ServiceLearning (S-L), aiming to understand their perceptions of their own competency development. Employing an interpretative approach, 22 FDPs and 10 open questionnaires were reviewed using content analysis with NVivo 11 Plus. Students’ perceptions of the professional skills acquired have been analyzed.The results indicate that S-L encourages students during initial teacher training to expand their knowledge about education, highlights the importance of educational planning, reinforces methodologiesfor improving classroom management, and fosters reflection and openness to change in initial teachertraining. The students perceive that S-L, as an educational paradigm, allows them to connect theorywith practice, helping them understand the complexity of teaching and acquire tools to face the challenges of the 21st century.
