Abstract

Luisgé Martín's autobiography El amor del revés (2016) is a paradigmatic example in Spanish literature of how hegemonic discourses affect the construction of identity, as it narrates the long process of self-acceptance as a gay man experienced by its protagonist. To analyse that process, this article focuses on the manifestations of the abject and the monstrous that appear throughout the text and which refer to the author's perception of himself before recognising his sexuality.
