Abstract
Academic language is an important element in the field of multilingual education. Research has shown that appropriate academic language didactics needs to be proposed to ensure comprehension of academic texts, success in school and access to the formal spheres of society. In addition, recent research has discussed new theorisations of academic language. For example, the Core Academic Language Skills (CALS) theory, which integrates seven skills related to academic language. At the same time, the advantages of pedagogical translanguaging have been extensively investigated. Such pedagogical strategies can accelerate, adapt and boost language acquisition, also in the case of academic language, by increasing metalinguistic awareness and enabling cross-language transfers.
