Abstract
Digitalization has transformed society, changing personal and professional spheres. Thissituation has led governments to invest in educational digitization, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. However, questions arise about the benefits and risks of this transformation. This pilot studyexplores the impact of digital versus analogue media use on the cognitive and psychological abilitiesof adolescents in school settings. The research was carried out during the second trimester of the 2023-2024 school year with 48 students in the fourth course of Secondary Education from a school located inBiscay (Spain). Students were divided into two groups, and it was randomly chosen which group wouldbe the Control Group (CG) and the Experimental Group (EG). The CG continued to use electronic devicesas fundamental learning tools, while the EG worked with analogical resources. The results showedthat there were no significant differences between the CG and the EG in post-test measures. However, significant improvements were found in the attentional capacity of the group that stopped using digitalmedia from pretest to posttest, suggesting a relationship between attention and its use. Concluding that, while the use of digital media is not associated with Internet problematic use, self-control or psychologicaldistress, it may influence attention in young people. Further research with larger and longer samplesshould be carried out.
