Abstract

En el corpus aristotélico, el término epicheírema se utiliza con el sentido técnico de “argumento”, salvo en Tópicos 162a15-18, donde se interpreta específicamente como un silogismo dialéctico. En Retórica, Aristóteles no utiliza el término epicheírema, pero sí menciona un silogismo retórico que denomina entimema y que, como el silogismo dialéctico, deriva de premisas probables. La similitud entre el sistema dialéctico y el sistema retórico propicia la entrada del término epicheírema en la retórica y el conflicto con respecto al entimema. A partir de ahí los rétores moldean el ámbito semántico del término epicheírema en función del encaje que le dan en su sistema retórico.
